[From LP Thorntree] ...So I went to Lalibela not only for the famous churches but discovered the surrounding being an absolutely stunning and amazing place for hiking, experience the life of the farmers in the highlands as those living in Lalibela, their hospitality and warm heart. ... Also I was really lucky that (true!) by a fortunate coincidence I met the tour-organizing talent Tadesse Lezaw who brought me together with Workeye, who turned out to be the just perfect guide. And on top: the prices for all sort of tours were more than ok (as I learned later: less than what most guides and agencies take).

[From TripAdvisor] Beautifully organized. We spent three days. The staff really work hard to make everything work for your stay. It's extremely relaxing. I wish they'd put a translucent roof on the shower tukul, so it would be a bit warmer! Hudad Lalibela also arranges overnight treks. Highly recommend Tadesse +251 912071595 as a guide.

[From TripAdvisor] Beautiful - end of the world sort of location, overlooking Lalibela itself on one side and other valleys in various directions. The escarpment is breathtaking. I hiked from the Asheton Maryam, which was a lovely route. On the second day, I hiked to Abuna Josef and stayed overnight with a family there and then hiked back the next day. That was pretty basic but the hospitality was fantastic. The family gave much more than they had - and I felt honoured to have shared their home for the night. The Abuna Josef peak is also beautiful. The hike there from the hudad is not too bad, but you have to be relatively fit and take into account the altitude. There is at least one big climb up (near the start of the hike). But it's worth it! My guide was Tadasse, who was fun, reliable, on time, and knew the area / routes very well. He was super considerate and lovely, and obviously very experienced. Highly recommended.
