SUGGESTIONS

Let us show you our home....

It often feels like we never have enough time to show our guests everything we would like them to see. Ethiopia is a vast country with a rich cultural and religious history, as well as incredible natural beauty. So really, we want you to stay as long as you can. But, if you have only limited time, we can still show you a lot... A few ideas on this page, all adaptable to your needs and interests.

HIKE OUR MOUNTAINS

ABUNA YOUSEF & MORE

3 nights / 4 days: Departing from Lalibela

Gives you time to get to the Abuna Yousef Mountain and, depending on your route, fit in Yemrehanne Kristos and Asheten Maryam along the way. First night accommodation at an eco-lodge and the second night will be spent with a family in their tukul in the conservation community in Abuna Yousef.

An additional night or two will give you the opportunity to explore other day hikes to different communities living on the escarpment while staying at an eco-lodge with fantastic views.

PILGRIMAGE TO

THE HOLY LAND

1-5 days: Lalibela and surrounds

There are 11 churches in Lalibela. The ticket price to all the churches is around US$50 and set by the government. The ticket is valid for 5 days to allow for leisurely exploration. Most tourists 'do' the churches in one long day. We recommend two days so that you don't get church-fatigue and to enjoy it a bit more.

An extra day or two will allow you to explore some of the churches outside of town. Those are far less travelled and are worth visiting if you have the time. You may even find yourself alone in some of these churches.

LAKE TANA

&

BLUE NILE FALLS

2-3 days: Bahir Dar and surrounds

It's worth spending some time on the shores of Lake Tana to unwind and relax. We suggest one day to explore the lake and its monasteries by boat. Another day to drive and see the Blue Nile Falls and perhaps try a bit of the local brew there. An extra day to relax, visit the market or even join the locals for a little swim in the lake.

There is a range of accommodation in Bahir Dar - from the luxurious to the budget. Let us know what you prefer and we can recommend something.

THE TRIBES

of

OMO VALLEY

7-10 days: Departing from Addis Ababa - Southern Ethiopian

We recommend travelling by road from Addis Ababa to the Omo Valley in the south. This way, you can take in the sights of the Rift Valley and several lakes on the way, including Lake Awassa and Lake Ziway. We make overnight stops near the lakes and then onto Arba Minch where we are based for visit Lake Chamo.

We then head further south towards the border of Kenya, where we will meet the Hamar tribes. We suggest at least two nights in the far south, to visit the markets, hang out with the communities. It also increases your changes of seeing a ceremony. (We never 'stage' any ceremonies - we always find out from the locals if there is something happening and then negotiate your attendance.)

On the way back to Addis Ababa, we can visit the Dorze people. Depending on your preference, we can stay a night with the Dorze communities in their bamboo huts.

It is possible to short cut this trip by flying from Addis to Arba Minch. We will meet you in Arba Minch with a vehicle.
